Pure battery-electric vehicles do not all expose the same information through generic emissions functions. Even when a tool displays battery data, the meaning, units and test conditions can be manufacturer-specific.

  2. Does it cover the traction-battery or battery-management module, not just the 12 V system?

  5. Are hybrid engine, inverter, charger and thermal-management modules separately listed?
  6. Does the function require an active subscription, internet access or security-gateway authorisation?
  7. What training and insulated equipment does the actual procedure require?

Avoid the clone-reader trap

A cheap adapter that drops out during ordinary live data is not improved by an “EV ready” label. A garage hobbyist should demand the coverage screen, current software version and a written answer for the specific function. Test the tool first on low-risk read-only tasks. Return it if it cannot maintain communication; do not compensate by repeatedly cycling ignition or improvising around a high-voltage warning.

Battery health needs context

One percentage is not a full battery assessment. Temperature, state of charge, cell balance, recent charging, software and the manufacturer's calculation all affect interpretation.
